New champ Conor McGregor posts update, has a message for Jose Aldo

Brash and outspoken UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has toned down his big talk now that he’s got the belt around his waist, and that includes a message directed at Jose Aldo.

Following his shocking 13-second knockout win over longtime champion Aldo (25-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 194 headliner and title-unification bout, former interim and now undisputed champ McGregor (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) sent a message directly to fans.

In the post, McGregor, who closed out the year’s biggest pay-per-view event in quick and violent fashion at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, congratulated the UFC on a big 2015, thanked “untouchable” Irish fans for their support, and even had a message for longtime rival Aldo.

Despite the heated buildup to their fight, Aldo was pretty classy with his comments.

“Respect to a great champion in Jose Aldo,” he wrote. “The true greats will always overcome adversity.

“I wish him and his loyal team well on their journey back. Much respect.”
