BELFAST, Northern Ireland – Marion Reneau badly needed a win, and she got it with a late finish over Milana Dudieva.
Reneau (7-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) was the more active fighter and landed with better accuracy to beat Dudieva (11-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC).
The women’s bantamweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 99 event at SSE Arena Belfast in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The entire event streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
Reneau established a striking edge early on. Dudieva caught a kick and forced the fight to the mat, but she was then forced to escape an armbar. After that, Reneau clearly pulled ahead.
In the second, Reneau had success with some dirty boxing and knees from the clinch, and in the third, she used the mount position to rain down punches and elbows as Dudieva struggled to defend.
Ultimately, with Dudieva trapped and unable to defend herself, Reneau was declared the winner via third-round TKO. The stoppage came at the 3:03 mark of the final frame.
With the win Reneau, who called out former title challenger Bethe Correia afterward, snapped a two-fight skid. However, a recent split-decision loss to Ashlee Evans-Smith arguably should have been a victory.
Dudieva, who returned from a 19-month layoff due to a pregnancy, has now suffered back-to-back losses.
