UFC Fight Night 67 results: Charles Oliveira finally chokes out Nik Lentz in third

GOIANIA, Brazil – It took almost four years for Nik Lentz and Charles Oliveira to get their rematch, but the action in the cage lived up to the wait.

Oliveira was able to sink in a guillotine choke in Round 3 to get the victory, but it was back-and-forth action from the opening second as the two men pounded on each other and threatened with submissions without a single break in the action.

The featherweight bout was the co-main event of today’s UFC Fight Night 67 event at Goiania Arena in Goiania, Goias, Brazil. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Lentz (25-7-2 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC) came out throwing kicks, using the threat of strikes to quickly close distance and get into a body lock with Oliveira (20-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC). Lentz used a few punches from inside before almost getting caught in a guillotine choke before advancing out of the position.

Lentz did a little work inside before the fight went back to the feet only to see Oliveira score his own takedown. Once the fight was back to the feet it was Lentz who appeared to be landing the better strikes.

Oliveira briefly stopped attacking, appearing to cover his eye while Lentz fired big strikes. Oliveira recovered, landing some big strikes. A knee from Oliveira sent Lentz to the ground where he had to absorb a flurry of strikes from Oliveira. Lentz managed to survive the attack somehow, ending the round mounted by Oliveira.

Lentz managed to get the fight to the ground almost immediately in Round 2. Once he had the fight on the ground he began to turn up the pressure, threatening with a choke and then landing sharp elbows to Oliveira’s face.

Both men looked tired coming out of their corners for Round 3 but it was Oliveira that was able to dig down for a little extra, finding a moment where Lentz exposed his neck and locking in a guillotine choke. Lentz tried to survive the choke as he was mounted with Oliveira torquing the hold, but eventually he was left with no choice but to tap.

The victory was the fourth straight for Oliveira, who hasn’t lost since a decision to Frankie Edgar at UFC 162 in July 2013.

Lentz suffered only his second defeat in six fights. His previous bout was a decision victor over Manny Gamburyan in May 2014.
