UFC Fight Night 67 results: Darren Till KOs Wendell Oliveira with elbows from guard

GOIANIA, Brazil – Darren Till didn’t lack confidence coming into his UFC debut against Wendell Oliveira, and once he got comfortable inside the cage he showed why.

After a blistering series of elbows from half-guard, Oliveira (24-9 MMA, 0-2 UFC) was left unconscious on the mat, while Till had his first UFC victory thanks to a TKO stoppage at the 1:37 mark of Round 2.

The welterweight bout opened up the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 67 event at Goiania Arena in Goiania, Goias, Brazil. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Oliveira’s strategy in the bout early on seemed heavily dependent on clinch work. At first, that seemed like enough to neutralize Till, who found himself trapped against the cage and unable to mount much offense for large portions of the opening round.

Early on in the second, however, Till leveraged Oliveira to the mat and soon found himself in the Brazilian’s half-guard, looking for the opportunity to posture up and strike. Oliveira gave him that opportunity when he got stuck with one arm extended while attempting a half-guard sweep from bottom. That left his defenses compromised, which Till capitalized on with a series of damaging elbow strikes that bounced Oliveira’s head off the canvas.

After one such elbow, Oliveira’s body went limp. A follow-up blow seemed to partially revive him, though by that point it was too late. With the fight already stopped, Till’s victory celebration was soon in full swing.

The win keeps Till’s professional record perfect, and provides him with a victorious start to his UFC career. Oliveira has now lost his last two.
