A welterweight match-up that could lead the winner to a title show is nearly finalized. UFC Tonight reports that Tyron Woodley vs. Rory MacDonald is close to being a done deal. The bout is being targeted to take place at UFC 174 in Vancouver on June 14.
Woodley (13-2) made his UFC debut at UFC 156 in February 2013, knocking out Jay Hieron in just 36 seconds. He lost by split decision to Jake Shields in his next outing, but rebounded with a knockout win over Josh Koscheck at UFC 167. He’s coming off a technical knockout win over former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit in his last outing on March 15.
MacDonald (16-2) looked to be well on his way to a title fight heading into UFC 167. He was riding a five-fight winning streak, but lost to Robbie Lawler by split decision. The training partner of former champion Georges St-Pierre bounced back from the loss to Lawler by defeating Demian Maia by unanimous decision on Feb. 22.
The fight has not yet been officially signed, but is expected to be in the coming days.
