‘TUF 19’ to Feature Middleweights, Light Heavyweights; Tryouts Set for Aug. 27 in Indy

The 18th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” doesn’t premiere until next month, but the UFC is already looking forward to the next installment of its trademark reality show.

UFC officials Wednesday announced that tryouts for “TUF 19” will take place Aug. 27 in Indianapolis, one day before UFC Fight Night 27 “Condit vs. Kampmann 2.” The promotion has invited middleweight and light heavyweights to take part in the tryouts at The Westin Indianapolis Hotel’s Capitol Room. An online application is available at UFC.com/TUF19.

As with most prior seasons, fighters who have previously competed in the UFC are not eligible to try out. Fighters must be between 21 and 34 years of age, and they must have at least three professional fights with a winning record verifiable on Sherdog.com or MixedMartialArts.com.

The UFC is also currently casting for “TUF Nations: Canada vs. Australia,” which will feature international squads made up of welterweights and middleweights. Those tryouts take place in Sydney on Sept. 11 and Toronto on Sept. 22; an application is available at UFC.ca/TUFNations.

The show’s upcoming 18th season debuts Sept. 4 and marks the series’ shift from FX to the newly launched Fox Sports 1. Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate are set to coach the first coed “TUF” cast, with male and female 135-pounders competing in separate brackets.
