Report: Chael Sonnen Tests Positive for HGH After Second Drug Test

Chael Sonnen has allegedly failed a second random drug test administered by the Nevada Athletic Commission. Among the banned substances found are reported to be human growth hormone, recombinant human erythropoietin, and human chorionic gonadotropin.

Nevada Athletic Commission Chairman Francisco Aguilar confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com on Saturday.

Aguilar went on to state that Sonnen's situation with the NAC has now been amended to include the second test failure, and will be dealt with on July 23 in a Las Vegas hearing.

Sonnen issued this statement to MMAFighting.com:

“Yes, the Commission is aware of other prescribed medications I was taking and I will not challenge their allegations. I will cooperate with the Commission and look forward to having a dialogue about how fighters who transition off TRT can avoid violating any rules."

This development comes on the heels of a failed test May 24 for Anastrozole and Clomiphene, which eventually lead to Sonnen retiring from mixed martial arts the following day.

Sonnen is currently booked for a submission grappling match against Andre Galvao at Metamoris 4 on Aug. 9 in Los Angeles.
