Following a loss to Rashad Evans at UFC 167, Chael Sonnen had said he intended to return to the middleweight division. Just a few short weeks later, Sonnen has apparently had a change of heart.
As part of Friday night’s UFC Brisbane pre-fight show on Fox Sports 2, Sonnen announced that he would acquiesce and fight Wanderlei Silva at light heavyweight following their stint as The Ultimate Fighter Brasil 3 coaches.
“Eat up and enjoy the holiday,” Sonnen said in a message to Silva.
The two were recently selected to go head-to-head as coaches on the reality show, and then they will go toe-to-toe in the Octagon.
“The coaches of The Ultimate Fighter Brasil are Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen,” UFC president Dana White revealed, prior to Sonnen facing Evans. “Then those two will fight.”
Sonnen and Silva have been in the throws of a feud for quite some time, often taking jabs at each other on social media and in interviews.
The two will now get the opportunity to settle the score in the Octagon, if they can make it through filming, and several months of waiting for the fight to finally happen once the series has aired on television.
