UFC on FOX 10 results, photos: Donald Cerrone starches Adriano Martins with high kick

CHICAGO – Lightweight scrapper Donald Cerrone turned in another signature performance, scoring a bonus-worthy first-round knockout of Brazilian contender Adriano Martins.

The lightweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC on FOX 10 event at United Center in Chicago. It aired on FOX after prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Cerrone walked quickly forward to start the fight, but Martins answered the charge and opened with a big kick to the body. The blow slowed Cerrone a touch, but he answered by starting a series of attacks to the leg. Cerrone remained the more accurate fighter, but Martins stayed firm in the pocket and answered with power shots.

Cerrone scored a late takedown, but Martins wouldn’t stay there and popped immediately back to his feet. It didn’t pay off.

With the clock winding down, Cerrone threw his first high kick of the fight. Martins started to block low, and the shin connected flush to the neck, sending him to the canvas. Cerrone followed to the floor, but referee “Big” John McCarthy stepped in to hold him back as Martins was already done.

“You got to see the old ‘Cowboy’ with a little bit of the new,” Cerrone said. “My goal is to be a champion. A lot of fighters say they can’t get fights. I’ll fight anyone, anytime.”

“Cowboy” Cerrone (22-6 MMA, 9-3 UFC) improves to 3-1 in his past four appearances. Martins (25-7 MMA, 1-1 UFC) sees a six-fight winning streak snapped.
