UFC 132 Results: Dennis Siver Squeaks By Matt Wiman in Close Decision

A back and forth war resulted in a close decision, but a win nonetheless for Dennis Siver over Matt Wiman at UFC 132.

Coming off arguably the biggest win of his career earlier this year over Georges Sotiropoulos, German fighter Dennis Siver was looking to establish himself in a very tough lightweight division as he faced veteran Matt Wiman.

Siver’s power in his hands and kicks ultimately seemed to be the difference, tagging Wiman with good shots while moving in and out. After a few exchanges on the feet, Wiman opted for a ground attack that brought him a lot of success in the 2nd round.

Getting the fight to the mat, Wiman opened up with some vicious elbow strikes that sliced and diced Siver’s forehead, leaving the German a bloody mess. Wiman was relentless with his attack while Siver tried to play defense and wait out the round.

The final round was a mix of takedown attempts from Wiman, but he couldn’t put Siver down for long at all. Meanwhile, Siver established his range and popped Wiman with solid shots that rattled his head a couple of times in the round.

The judges all gave the fight 29-28 to Siver, obviously giving Wiman the 2nd round, but the German got the nod on the other two. A disgusted Wiman who didn’t agree with the decision threw down his hat, and stormed out of the cage when the decision was read.

“It was a very close decision, that’s a fact,” Siver commented after judges gave him the win.

The victory marks Siver’s third in a row in the UFC, but he was the first to point out the flaws that were exposed in his game on Saturday night.

“Next time I’m going to try to improve my takedown defense,” said Siver. “This guy was horribly strong and it was very hard for me to hit him.”

The win wasn’t as dramatic as Siver had surely hoped for, but it was a win either way. To make a statement and move up further in the division, Siver may hope for a match-up with someone like Clay Guida if he wants to show off some wrestling and prove he belongs among the best at 155lbs.
