UFC officials had a lot of pent up energy with no event over the weekend and they’re finally letting it out with a slew of updates.
The latest is an announcement that TUF Live alums John Cofer and Mike Rio will square off at the TUF 16: Team Carwin vs. Team Nelson Finale on Dec. 15 in Las Vegas.
Neither Cofer nor Rio went far on the show.
Vinc Pichel submitted Cofer in their fight on the show, eliminating him from the competition, while Andy Ogle submitted Rio, ending his TUF chances.
Cofer (7-2), however, went on to fight on the TUF Live Finale. He lost via a Justin Lawrence head kick knockout, but not before they battled back and forth, earning Fight of the Night honors.
Rio (8-1) suffered two broken ribs in the fight with Ogle, so had to sit out the finale. The fight with Cofer at the TUF 16 Finale will be Rio’s first official action in the Octagon.
A heavyweight bout between TUF 16 coaches Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson heads to fight card.
