Justin Edwards vs. Yancy Medeiros booked for UFC 177

A lightweight bout between Justin Edwards (8-4 MMA, 2-4 UFC) and Yancy Medeiros (9-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) is the latest addition to next month’s quickly filling UFC 177 lineup.

UFC officials today announced the bout.

UFC 177 takes place Aug. 30 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Edwards vs. Medeiros will likely be part of the prelims.

Edwards, who joined the UFC after appearing on “The Ultimate Fighter 13,” is likely in a must-win situation following back-to-back losses to Brandon Thatch and Ramsey Nijem and an overall 1-3 skid since his first UFC win. The 31-year-old Ohioan recently dropped from welterweight to lightweight for his bout with Nijem.

He now takes on Medeiros, a former Strikeforce fighter in search of his first UFC win after three bouts. In addition to losses to Rustam Khabilov and Jim Miller, the 26-year-old Hawaiian had knocked out Yves Edwards in October, but the victory was overturned after Medeiros tested positive for marijuana.

The latest UFC 177 card now includes:

• Champ T.J. Dillashaw vs. Renan Barao – for bantamweight title
• Shayna Baszler vs. Bethe Correia
• Danny Castillo vs. Tony Ferguson
• Anthony Hamilton vs. Ruan Potts
• Carlos Diego Ferreira vs. Ramsey Nijem
• Derek Brunson vs. Lorenz Larkin
• Justin Edwards vs. Yancy Medeiros
