Josh Hill Believes He’s Ready to Take the WSOF Belt Off Marlon Moraes

Coming off the first loss of his career in February of 2015 to World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes, Canadian standout Josh Hill knew people were writing him off, so he had to make a statement in his comeback.

Since the loss to Moraes, Hill has won four straight bouts, including the bout he believes was the most critical, his fight three months later against Josh Rettinghouse.

“The first fight back was probably the most important for me just because it was after my first loss and I wanted to come back even harder,” Hill told MMAWeekly.com.

“It was against a former WSOF title challenger, and I knew it was a tough fight, and I felt great and at my best, and ended up getting the submission in the third round. After that I’ve just wanted to keep the ball rolling.”

Hill believes since the loss to Moraes that he’s steadily improved, as he believes he has done so at every stage of his career.

“You look at me before The Ultimate Fighter (in 2013), and then look at me after TUF, and after my first loss, and then my last couple fights, I think I’ve grown every one,” said Hill.

Josh Hill“More so important than anything is my confidence: my confidence to go out there and show all my skillset instead of just one or two, and my confidence in showing I belong amongst the best in the world at 135 pounds.”

Hill (14-1) will get his rematch with Moraes (16-4-1) in the 135-pound championship main event of WSOF 32 on July 30 in Everett, Wash.

“I’m carrying that confidence into this fight,” Hill said. “I’m on a four-fight winning streak, and I’m getting this rematch, and my goal is to just take it to (Moraes).

“I’m going to look at a few things and see what worked effectively and what didn’t; what I should do differently in order to change those mistakes I made in the first one. I’m just trying not to repeat those things.”

While he’d like to make plans for the remainder of 2016, for now, Hill’s focus if firmly on July 30 and winning his first major MMA championship.

“Right now, I don’t want to set (my goals) too far out, because if I start looking past this fight, it would be a dumb move to do,” he said.

“This is a huge opportunity to hold a title in one of the top three organizations in the world. It puts you amongst the elite in the world, so that’s my goal, and it’s all I’m thinking about. As for what’s next, we’ll see after this fight.”
