Anthony Pettis Appears Headed for a Rematch with Benson Henderson

WEC never die.

It’s a battle cry for the fighters that came to the UFC from the now defunct promotion, and it appears that two former champions from that organization will now battle it out with a UFC title on the line.

Benson Henderson, who captured the UFC strap on Saturday night with a win over Frankie Edgar, appears headed on a collision course with the last man to defeat him, Anthony “Showtime” Pettis.

Pettis was also successful at UFC 144, landing the Knockout of the Night with a vicious head kick to finish off Joe Lauzon.

“I think he’s gonna get it,” said UFC president Dana White about Pettis’ chances of facing Henderson next.

The first time Henderson and Pettis met it ended up being one of the best fights of 2010, and it was capped off with the kick heard round the world.

In a razor close fight as the fifth round was underway, Pettis launched himself off the cage and clipped Henderson with his right foot, sending the Arizona based fighter crashing to the canvas.

The move made highlight reels everywhere and later became known as the “Showtime” kick. It closed out the WEC in spectacular fashion and earned Pettis the win over Henderson.

Now with Henderson proudly wearing the UFC title around his waist, Pettis is looking to do it all over again.

“It means the world to me. I was supposed to get a title shot last year, that didn’t happen the way it was supposed to, and I just came back focused and I’m ready to go,” Pettis said after his win.

“Henderson did his thing tonight and we have some unfinished business. Let’s take care of it.”
