Jake Shields entered the Decagon at WSOF14 looking to make a successful debut. Standing opposite Shields was the WSOF Canadian welterweight champion Ryan Ford. Shields was looking to rebound from a disappointing showing against Hector Lombard while Ford was on a six-fight winning streak. Ford had a moment of success early, stunning the MMA veteran with a stiff punch. However, Shields would make it through the early troubles and secure a takedown. It was business as usual for the American jiu-jitsu practitioner from there. Shields would take the full mount position and worked for rear-naked choke finish.
