It would be an understatement to say that Tyson Fury has had an odd year. Fury will make one final appearance in the ring before the year is over, even though it is not against the opponent everyone anticipated. On Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London( ESPN+, 1 p.m. ET), Fury will face Derek Chisora in a three-match WBC heavyweight match.

Fury's year got off to a respectable start when it faced Dillian Whyte in April, who had long been an unavoidable contender. Fury defeated Whyte with ease, as was to be expected. Fury's announcement in the ring that he was quitting boxing was unexpected.

Fury began a month-long period of insisting he was actually retired and yelling at fighters after that announcement. Fury first proposed the idea of a trilogy fight with Chisora during this time. Fury once more announced his retirement a few days after declaring he would be fighting Chisora.

Fury left the Ring Magazine heavyweight championship with this "retirement," but he did not leave the WBC championship, indicating that a fight was still in the offing.

"I'm returning to receive more punishment." Really, a fool, but what can we do? This week, Fury said. I'm unable to let it go. I have this bull by the horns and I'm riding it, so maybe there's a doctor out there who can help me let go of it. Who knows how much longer I can endure? At the age of 34, I have undergone numerous operations and am in pieces. How much longer can this go on?

Outside of boxing, I've led a miserable life. I've gained a lot of weight and have struggled greatly with boxing. I'm battling fire head-on. I'm currently in the middle of the candle, despite what they say you can't burn it at both ends. The brutal and honest truth is that I'm not sure how much longer I can keep doing this.

Fury once more ended his retirement after Oleksandr Usyk defended his WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles in his rematch with Anthony Joshua, indicating that he was looking for a fight to take home the title of first four-belt, undisputed Heavyweight champion. Fury started talks to face Anthony Joshua in the biggest boxing match in British history as soon as it became clear Usyk would not be released until 2023.

Of course, those negotiations failed because Joshua insisted on accepting all of Fury's conditions. However, fury persisted in imposing seemingly arbitrary deadlines before declaring Joshua and his team to be too difficult to work with and vowing never to challenge the former two-time heavyweight champion again.

Fury then turned around and engaged Chisora in combat. In their rematch from November 2014, Fury defeated Chisora by a unanimous vote in July 2011 and compelled the corner to end the match after 10 rounds.

Chisora has been struggling to stay relevant as a contender since 2017, despite Fury's continued success as the best heavyweight on the planet and one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.

Chisora won a hard-fought split decision victory over Kubrat Pulev in July, his first victory since October 2019, after suffering three straight losses.

What is said does not matter to me. Chisora stated at a news conference on Thursday, "I can't give up just because the newspaper says so." You're going to enjoy the entire show because it will be the best heavyweight game's first round ever. The first round must be electric in order to create a buzzing environment.
