Zuffa Releases Welterweight Charlie Brenneman After Loss to Kyle Noke at UFC 152

Following back-to-back losses, welterweight Charlie Brenneman has been released by the UFC.

Brenneman alluded to the development Tuesday morning on Twitter, and Sherdog.com confirmed the news with a source close to the fighter shortly thereafter.

“I’m gone but not forgotten. I’ll be back soon!” Brenneman wrote. “Thanks [to the] UFC and Dana White for the opportunities, and [thanks] especially to all my loyal fans! See you all soon!”

Known for his wrestling ability, Brenneman was defeated in three of his last four bouts. Though “The Spaniard” kicked off 2012 with a unanimous decision victory over fellow grappler Daniel Roberts, the native Pennsylvanian was finished in each of his last two appearances, submitting to an Erick Silva rear-naked choke on June 8 before falling via technical knockout to former middleweight Kyle Noke 10 days ago at UFC 152.

Prior to the skid, Brenneman had put together a successful resume, winning three of his first four fights in the UFC and losing just twice in his first 16 pro outings. Brenneman capped that favorable stretch with a short-notice, upset victory over Rick Story last summer at UFC Live 4.
