Official fighter weigh-ins for World Series of Fighting 8 took place today, but the main-event lightweight title fight nearly became a non-championship affair.

Richard Patishnock missed weight for the five-round 155-pound championship bout, coming in at 155.4 pounds on his first attempt. His opponent, Justin Gaethje, was on the mark at 154.6.

Patishnock was given two hours to cut the additional 0.4 pounds. In title fights, there is no one-pound allowance given to competitors. He came back on the second try and became official for the bout.

Two other fighters missed weight on their first attempts, as well, though not by large amounts. Tyson Nam was 136.2 pounds for his bantamweight bout against Cody Bollinger, who was 135.6. (Ironically, it is Bollinger whose MMA claim to fame, or infamy, those far is being kicked off Season 18 of “The Ultimate Fighter” for weight issues on the show.) Nam later returned and was on target.

On the preliminary card, Alexis Vila was 126.6 pounds for his flyweight fight against Sidemar Honorio, who was 126. Vila was given two hours to drop 0.6 additional pounds. But like Nam, he made weight on his second try.

WSOF 8 has another title fight on the bill as Jessica Aguilar and Alida Gray meet for the inaugural women’s strawweight title. Aguilar and Gray both came in under the 115-pound limit, hitting 114.8 and 114.4, respectively.

The co-main event is a light heavyweight tilt between Anthony Johnson and Mike Kyle, who were supposed to meet last fall before a Johnson injury scrapped the fight. Johnson was 204.8 pounds, while Kyle was 205.6. Johnson has been promised a light heavyweight title shot with a win.

Today’s weigh-ins took place at Paradise Live inside Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. The same venue hosts Saturday’s event, which includes a main card on NBC Sports Network and prelims on MMAjunkie.
