If Tito Ortiz hadn’t taken the fight with Rashad Evans at UFC 133, the next call was going to go to Vladdy Matyushenko.
It’s a good thing that didn’t happen because now Matyushenko is off the card with an injury and has been replaced by Matt Hamill, who now faces Alexander Gustafsson.
UFC officials announced the switch on Thursday.
Matt Hamill comes onto the UFC 133 fight card just two months removed from his last bout at UFC 130 at the end of May where he lost a unanimous decision to Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson in the main event.
The former ‘Ultimate Fighter’ had won five fights in a row prior to the loss including a victory over his former coach from the reality show, Tito Ortiz.
Hamill faces a very tough test in Alexander Gustafsson, who has picked up submission victories in his last two fights in the UFC.
The details of Matyushenko’s injury were not available at the time.
