It’s not often we see a “Fight of the Night” winner that ends in the first round. Now try 76 seconds.
That’s how long it took Donald Cerrone to knock out former teammate Melvin Guillard at UFC 150 in August 2012. And not only did “Cowboy” pick up “Fight of the Night,” he won the “Knockout of the Night” bonus, as well, for a cool $120,000 on top of his show and win money.
Fight-night bonuses are no stranger to Cerrone, of course. He has seven of them in the UFC after moving over from World Extreme Cagefighting, where he had five. But his win over Guillard was the first time he pulled off the rather rare double-bonus.
This week, Cerrone likely has bonus awards on his mind again – he always seems to. Cerrone (21-6 MMA, 8-3 UFC) takes on Adriano Martins (25-6 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in a lightweight bout on the main card at UFC on FOX 10 on Saturday.
UFC on FOX 10 takes place at United Center in Chicago, where Cerrone’s last visit didn’t go so well. In fact, he was the victim of a first-round “Knockout of the Night” bonus at UFC on FOX 6 a year ago when he lost to Anthony Pettis. So he’ll be looking to turn his Windy City fortunes around this time.
But before “Cowboy” faces Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Martins, check out his dazzling knockout of Guillard above.
