If Josh Barnett gets his hands on you, your catch wrestling defense better be on point. Mark Hunt learned that the hard way.
In July, 2006, Barnett and Hunt met in the quarterfinal of the 2006 PRIDE heavyweight grand prix. Barnett (20-3 at the time) earned his way to the fight with an opening round submission of Aleksander Emelianenko, while Hunt (5-1 at the time) advanced past the first phase with a TKO of Tsuyoshi Kohsaka.
It was a classic striker vs. grappler affair, and Barnett’s submission skills proved superior.

Barnett, who currently sits at No. 10 in the latest NOS Energy Drink MMA heavyweight rankings, returns to action on Sept. 26 against Roy Nelson in the headlining bout of UFC Fight Night 75 in Japan.
Meanwhile, Hunt checks in at No. 9 and fights again in November against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the co-main event of UFC 193 in Australia.
