Video: Following surgery, UFC champ Ronda Rousey rehabs injured knee

Ronda Rousey is back in the training room, though it’s not for the purpose of preparing for an immediate fight.

Following her stunning 16-second knockout of Alexis Davis at UFC 175 in July, Rousey (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) was forced to undergo a minor knee procedure to correct some lingering issues.

“My knee is really stable,” Rousey stated at the UFC 175 post-fight press conference. “All the ligaments are fine. There’s just stuff floating around in there. … It’s just something that’s more maintenance that I need to do, so it’s not really a major knee surgery at all. It’s just a scope. I literally walk out of there and be 100 percent in two weeks.”

A little more than one month out from Rousey’s stunning victory, which marked her fourth successful UFC women’s bantamweight championship defense, the Olympic medalist is in the thick of recovery mode.

“Rowdy” recently shared videos on Instagram with an update on her condition and the work she’s putting in to get back to 100 percent.

Rousey has remained in the headlines since UFC 175. She suffered a broken thumb against Davis, was named “Best Female Athlete” at the 2014 ESPYs and most recently expressed her desire to become the world’s highest-grossing actress.

The 27-year-old has firmly stated she hopes to fight Gina Carano in her next bout, and while UFC President Dana White has shown confidence he’ll strike a deal, negotiations appear to have hit a standstill.

Should Carano become unavailable, the winner of UFC 178’s Cat Zingano vs. Amanda Nunes matchup could be next for the reigning women’s 135-pound champion, who has bulldozed every opponent throughout her undefeated career.
