Video: Does Kimbo Slice have a Bellator future beyond the Ken Shamrock fight?

After Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson returns from a five-year layoff to fight MMA trailblazer Ken Shamrock at Bellator 138, what’s next? Does the former underground bareknuckle brawler, who turned his Youtube fame into a short but lucrative MMA career, have plans beyond Shamrock?

This past week, Slice and Shamrock discussed the bout – and their futures after it.

For 41-year-old Slice, who’s dabbled in pro boxing over the past few years, the MMA fight with 51-year-old Shamrock, a UFC Hall of Famer and former champion who was part of the UFC’s first event in 1993, was alluring.

“It made sense; it made dollars,” Slice said. “So I’m in.”

So what happens after this fight – the one initially targeted for a 2008 EliteXC card that was scrapped when Shamrock suffered a cut just prior to fight night? Slice (4-2) and Shamrock (28-15-2) fight June 20 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The Spike TV-televised headliner is likely to do big ratings, but does Slice have a future in MMA after the summer bout?

“This isn’t one and done,” he said. “I’m here, man. I’m here to fight anybody in the heavyweight division. I’m not here to make friends. I’m not here to shake these guys’ hands. I’m here to thump. I’m here to fight them.”

For more from Slice, including why he trusts Bellator’s matchmaking process and why MMA was able to lure him back, check out the above video.
