UFC to Have Subscription-Based Digital Network Available in 2014

Lorenzo-Fertitta-UFC-144-0010The Ultimate Fighting Championship will provide a subscription-based digital network for fans to watch fights in 2014, according to a report on Monday.

Citing UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, USA Today reported that the online network will feature international fight cards not broadcast on U.S. television, as well as other options.

“The UFC’s expansion into international markets, and the extended calendar of events, is certainly part of the reason it makes sense to launch the digital network in 2014,” Fertitta told USA Today. “UFC fans are the most passionate fans in the world, and we want to ensure they can see every fight and every event no matter where in the world the Octagon may be.”

The overseas fight cards will air in prime time, according to where they are located. The upcoming UFC Singapore card, for example, will air in that region in the evening, while the U.S. audience will have a start time of 6:30 a.m. ET / 3:30 a.m PT.

In addition to the fights cards for next year, the network will air international versions of the The Ultimate Fighter, according to the report. There will also be on-demand options for fans to watch archived footage.

UFC Singapore will be the first card available on the digital network, which takes place on Jan. 4 at the country’s Marina Bay Sands resort.

An official announcement regarding the yet-to-be-named network is expected for later this month.
