UFC on Fox 4 Update: Flyweight Ian McCall Withdraws from Aug. 4 Card Due to Injury

An injury has forced flyweight standout Ian McCall to withdraw from his planned UFC on Fox 4 appearance against UFC newcomer John Moraga.

McCall recently posted news of his withdrawal on the MMA Underground forum, and Sherdog.com later confirmed the development with the fighter. McCall was set to face once-beaten Moraga at the Aug. 4 event, which takes place at Staples Center in Los Angeles. A replacement opponent for Moraga has not yet been announced.

Known as “Uncle Creepy,” 28-year-old McCall joined the UFC in spring as the reigning Tachi Palace Fights flyweight champion. Then ranked as the world’s top 125-pounder, McCall made his Octagon debut against Demetrious Johnson on March 3, fighting “Mighty Mouse” to a majority draw in the semifinals of the UFC’s four-man flyweight title tournament.

In the event of a draw, the men were supposed to fight a sudden victory round to determine a winner. However, the result of the bout was announced incorrectly in the cage as a majority decision win for Johnson, and the tabulation error was only discovered after the combatants had exited the Octagon. As a result, the pair rematched three months later at UFC on FX 3. Johnson earned a unanimous verdict over the game McCall, punching his ticket to the tournament finals, where he will now square off with Joseph Benavidez to crown an inaugural flyweight champ at UFC 152.
