UFC on FUEL TV 10 results: Rony Jason submits Mike Wilkinson quickly into first

FORTALEZA, BRAZIL – Refusing to touch gloves when your opponent offers one up at the start of a fight often winds up having bad karmic consequences.

Such was the case for Mike Wilkinson – although Rony Jason’s jiu-jitsu had quite a bit to do with it, as well. Jason submitted Wilkinson with an triangle choke just 1:24 into the first round.

The featherweight bout opened up the main card of today’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 event at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. It aired on FUEL TV following prelims on Facebook.

Jason wanted to touch gloves, but Wilkinson wanted nothing to do with it, staying on the outside. Jason opened with a right-left, but Wilkinson dropped down quickly and shot in for a double-leg takedown. It looked like he might be able to be the heavier fighter on top and impose some ground and pound.

But from his back, Jason went after a triangle choke and quickly had Wilkinson in trouble. It looked like Wilkinson would have room to defend, but when Jason got Wilkinson’s left arm out, it was the beginning of the end.

Jason landed several elbows to the head from his back while referee Marc Goddard looked in – and when Wilkinson refused to tap, Goddard moved in to break the choke with Wilkinson already out.

“I was very worried because for the first time I was very serious about my diet and my training,” Jason said. “So I didn’t know how my body was going to respond to the weight recuperation after all this time of dieting. But the proof is there. I intend to be more responsible from now on. I will always cry thinking about the support of the crowd today. This win goes to my grandfather, who just died – and for the the first time, I’ll get back to my home city and won’t have a chance to hug him.”

Jason (13-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) won for the eighth straight time and stayed perfect in the UFC after his wins over Godofredo Castro and Sam Sicilia. Wilkinson (8-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) saw the perfect start to his career snapped.
