UFC on FOX 12 medical suspensions: Matt Brown could be out six months

The California State Athletic Commission issued medical suspensions to all the fighters on Saturday’s UFC on FOX 12 card, with nearly a dozen getting terms longer than the minimum.

The CSAC oversaw the event at SAP Center in San Jose, which had four main-card fights on FOX, four prelims on FOX, and four prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Main-event welterweight Matt Brown could be out for as long as six months unless a doctor clears him for a possible broken nose and cuts in the same area. If he gets the go-ahead, he’ll be out a minimum of 45 days after the five-round loss to Robbie Lawler in a title eliminator. Lawler was given the standard seven-day minimum suspension for a “mandatory rest period.”

The three other fighters who lost on the main card also were given fairly significant shut-down terms. Co-main event light heavyweight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was suspended for 45 days after his 44-second knockout loss to Anthony Johnson. But he could be out as long as two months unless he has a cut cleared by a doctor.

Clay Guida also is out 45 days after his submission loss to Dennis Bermudez, but could be out a little longer unless he has facial cuts cleared. And Josh Thomson, who dropped a split decision to Bobby Green to open the main card, could be out two months unless docs clear a cut on his right eyelid.

On the preliminary card, Hernani Perpetuo dropped a unanimous decision to Tim Means to fall to 0-2 in the UFC. But he was suspended indefinitely by the CSAC for possible fractures of his left wrist and right foot. He’ll need a doctor’s OK to return to action. Means also could be out for 180 days unless he’s cleared early, and Gilbert Burns and Andreas Stahl find themselves in the same situation.

The list of UFC on FOX 12 fighters (via Sherdog) who received terms longer than the seven-day minimum includes:
