UFC CanadaThe UFC took to Calgary on Wednesday for a “major announcement,” which most expected would be the announcement of UFC 149 on July 21 at the ScotiaBank Saddledome in Calgary.

That was accurate, but only partially so.

UFC president Dana White took to the stage to not only announce the promotion’s first event in Calgary, but he also revealed that UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo would defend his belt in the evening’s main event. He wasn’t ready to announce an opponent, but did confirm the champion’s participation.

White then beamed in special guests Mark Hominick and Georges St-Pierre via satellite to announce two more Canadian events for 2012.

Hominick, via a studio in Toronto, announced that the UFC will return to Toronto on Sept. 22 of this year for UFC 152, while St-Pierre, in Los Angeles for the announcement, revealed that Montreal is on the docket for UFC 154 on Nov. 17 at the Bell Centre.

White wasn’t done there, either.

“We’ll be doing these three cities for the next two years. So that doesn’t suck, right?” He revealed.

Following Montreal falling through as the location for UFC 145, the UFC is making a big commitment to Canada, already promising three events this year and then again in 2013.

While UFC director of Canadian operations Tom Wright stated that Toronto and Montreal are the UFC’s “tent pole” locations, indicating they’ll be on the schedule annually, White confirmed that, at least for 2012 and 2013, Calgary will be the third location.
