UFC Officially Announces Japan Show on Feb 26, 2012 at Saitama Super Arena


The UFC is officially set to return to Japan in 2012.

At a press conference held there on Tuesday, UFC President Dana White via a taped message along with the head of the UFC Asian offices Mark Fischer announced that the promotion would be coming to Saitama Super Arena on Feb 26, 2012.

MMAWeekly.com first reported the show in July with Saitama Super Arena being the likely landing spot for the show, and now the card is set to happen.

While details were still few and far between in regards to who would be appearing on the show, it’s likely that several of the UFC’s fighters from Japan and surrounding areas would end up on the February show.

Other fighters such as Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira have expressed interest in fighting in Japan as well. Nogueira spent several years fighting there when he was a part of Pride Fighting Championships.

The UFC still houses several Pride veterans who made names for themselves in Japan. The list includes Wanderlei Silva, Mirko Cro Cop, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, and many more.

The UFC will return to Japan for the first time in over 14 years when the land there in Feb 2012.

The last UFC show there was in 1997 with Randy Couture defeating Maurice Smith in the main event on the card.
