Any headbanger out there will remember Dec. 8, 2004, as a truly dark day for the world of heavy metal. That was the day that former Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott was gunned down while on stage with his new band, Damageplan, at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio.
This weekend, UFC Fight Night 40 takes place in nearby Cincinnati with Ohioan Matt Brown headlining the card. While doing press leading up to the fight, Brown was asked about that fateful day in 2004. He has a unique perspective from many other metalheads, as Brown was in attendance that night, an eye witness to the shooting of Dimebag Darrell.
Watch as Matt Brown recounts the loss of one of heavy metal’s great guitarists.
