UFC Macao (UFC on Fuel TV 6) Official with Rich Franklin vs. Cung Le Headlining

Rich Franklin and Cung Le in MacauAlthough the word about the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first foray into China has been out on the streets for some time now, the promotion on Thursday made the event official.

UFC Macao: Franklin vs. Le – also known as UFC on Fuel TV 6 – is headlined by former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin in a fight against former Strikeforce titleholder Cung Le.

The two were originally slated to square off at UFC 148 in early July. Injuries on other cards, however, necessitated some shuffling, resulting in Franklin fighting Wanderlei Silva at UFC 147 and Le squaring off with Patrick Cote at UFC 148. Franklin and Le both won their fights.

Franklin vs. Le now heads the promotion’s first event in China, which is slated for Nov. 10 at the 15,000-seat CotaiArena in Macao.

UFC Macao will also feature South Korean fighter Dong Hyun Kim in a welterweight battle against Brazil’s Paulo Thiago, as well as a light heavyweight fight pitting unbeaten Bulgarian Stanislav Nedkov against Brazilian knockout artist Thiago Silva.

Also featured on the card will be the first Chinese fighter ever to compete in the Octagon, Tiequan Zhang. Zhang’s opponent has not yet been announced.

“Our debut into Greater China is a huge milestone in the UFC history and demonstrates the immense popularity and acceptance of the sport on a global stage,” said UFC Asia Managing Director Mark Fischer.

“This is certainly one of the single biggest sporting events to ever hit the Hong Kong and Macao area and the global attention this event will receive pays tribute to the birthplace of martial arts. We are honored to hold our first event in China at the world-class CotaiArena in Macau.”

Tickets for UFC Macao: Franklin vs. Le go on-sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Sept. 7 in Macao. That’s 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT on Sept. 6 in the U.S.
