UFC Fighter Josh Samman Has Died | MMAWeekly.com

UFC middleweight fighter Josh Samman has passed away at the age of 28 in a hospital in Hollywood, Fla.

A report by the Tallahassee Democrat said Samman was found unresponsive early Friday in his apartment. He was found alongside his roommate, Troy Kirkingburg, who was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Samman remained in a coma until his passing.

Samman’s manager, Gary Ibarra, confirmed Samman’s death to FoxSports.com on Wednesday. It was also reported by the Tallahassee Democrat, citing several sources close to the fighter.

While no foul play is suspected, the circumstances led to much speculation about a drug overdose, as police continue to investigate. Samman’s mother, however, released a statement to Fox Sports, saying that there was no heroin found in her son’s system.

“In spite of speculation, there was no heroin found in Josh’s system whatsoever. No matter what people are posting on social media,” read the statement.

“The reason I am making this statement is because Josh touched so many lives and loved inspiring others, especially young people.   I don’t want them to lose faith in him and whatever he brought out in them because of the lies.  He would want them to ‘never give up.’”

Samman made his way to the Octagon via the seventeenth season of The Ultimate Fighter. He has spent the last three years fighting under the UFC banner, amassing a 3-2 record.

He also helped start and was the CEO of the Combat Night fight promotion in Florida, for which Kirkingburg was the ring announcer.
