After being cut from the UFC with three straight losses, Tim Hague fought his way back into the Octagon with impressive wins over Zak Jensen and Travis Wiuff.  The Canadian fighter desperately needed a win at UFC Fight For The Troops 2 to secure his place on the roster, but standing in his way was undefeated Matt Mitrione.

Mitrione displayed improved footwork early on and utilized his jab; his time spent under the tutelage of Duke Roufus was apparent.  Hague attempted a few takedowns, but they were defended well by the former football player.  Mitrione dropped Hague with a straight left halfway into the round and subsequent punches forced a referee stoppage.

“For this fight, I wanted to emulate Dominick Cruz,” said Mitrione after the fight.  “I wanted to be the 265-pound Dominick Cruz.  I love the way you fight brother, you’re elusive, and I wanted to be just like that.”

“I think I broke my left hand,” revealed the former Ultimate Fighter contestant.

After an impressive victory, Mitrione displayed his improved skills and fighting potential.

“I want to get tested.  I’m not going to bite off more than I can chew but I want to fight.  I’m here to fight, I’m here to get a piece of gold.”
