LAS VEGAS – Stephen Thompson denied Johny Hendricks a comeback at welterweight, stopping the ex-champ with a flurry of pinpoint strikes.
Hendricks (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) got one chance to wrestle the former kickboxing champ and spent the rest of the opening frame eating Thompson’s (12-1MMA, 7-1 UFC) punches and kicks, succumbing at the 3:31 mark of the first round.
“I came out here to put on a good show, and hopefully the fans and everybody back home was impressed. Hopefully, I can get that title, baby,” said Thompson after the fight.
The welterweight bout was the main event of today’s UFC Fight Night 82 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
