MONTERREY, Mexico – It was a wild brawl at UFC Fight Night 78, but Polo Reyes was able to get the better of the exchanges with Cesar Arzaamendia, eventually landing a brutal hook that notched him the knockout victory.
The lightweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 78 event at Monterrey Arena in Monterrey, Mexico. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional prelims and a main card on FOX Sports 1.
Reyes (4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) scored early with a winging punch behind the ear of Arazmendia (7-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), briefly dropping his opponent. Moments later, the two men began exchanging heavy shots, but it was Reyes seeming to land the better shots.
Arzaamendia tried to change the texture of the fight as the striking game seemed to be slipping away from him. Arzaamendia scored with a pair of takedowns, but Reyes was able to get back to his feet successfully both times.
Reyes landed a sweeping left hook as the two separated from the clinch, clipping Arzamendia on the front of his face and dropping him to the canvas where a few follow-up shots brought the fight to a close at the 3:42 mark of Round 1.
Reyes is now riding a two-fight winning streak and has yet to see the judges’ scorecards in his professional career.
