UFC Fight Night 48 results: Alberto Mina stops Shinsho Anzai with hammerfists

MACAU – It was a fight that got crazy early and stayed that way for the duration.

Alberto Mina (11-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) won a back-and-forth affair thanks to a hard right uppercut that found Shinsho Anzai’s (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) chin one too many times, eventually resulting in a TKO stoppage at the 4:17 mark of Round 1.

The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 48 event at The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena in Macau. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

From the opening seconds on, this seemed less like an MMA fight and more like a bar brawl at 3 a.m. Both men were all offense right from the start, with Anzai hurting Mina and then Mina coming back to hurt Anzai all in the span of two minutes and a few brief punching exchanges.

The fight seemed to turn midway through the first when Mina realized that he had a home for his right uppercut on the chin of a charging Anzai. That punch hurt Anzai several times late in the round before eventually dropping him in the final minute.

Mina pounced on that opening, following Anzai to the mat and raining down brutal hammerfists until the referee finally moved in to call a halt, but not before being implored to do so several times by an incredulous Mina.

With the win, the Brazilian Mina stays perfect in his pro career. Anzai loses for the first time since 2010.
