UFC Fight Night 44 results: Ricardo Lamas tops Hacran Dias despite possible broken hand

SAN ANTONIO – In a fight that turned into a slow, steady grind, Ricardo Lamas (14-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) wore down Hacran Dias (21-3-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and suffocated his offense en route to a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

The featherweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 44 event at AT&T Center in San Antonio. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelim on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Lamas committed himself to getting the fight to the floor early on, but Dias refused to go down easily. His takedown defense in the clinch gave Lamas some difficulty, but he spent so much time defending against Lamas’ wrestling with his back glued to the fence that he was hardly able to launch any offense of his own.

In the third round Lamas’ grappling game finally began to bear fruit, resulting in a couple takedowns and even one jump to back mount, though Dias defended well and didn’t give up anything easy. He also didn’t do much to hurt Lamas, who said after the bout that he might have broken his right hand in the fight, limiting his options in the striking game.

Lamas bounces back into the win column for the first time since his failed bid to take Jose Aldo’s UFC featherweight title in February. Dias has now lost two straight in the UFC.
