UFC Fight Night 38 Weigh-In Results: Alexander Gustafsson, Jimi Manuwa on Target

Jimi Manuwa’s chiseled physique and formidable knockout power appear to be all that stand between Alexander Gustafsson and a second shot at Ultimate Fighting Championship gold.

Gustafsson checked in at 204 pounds for his five-round showdown with the unbeaten Manuwa (205) in the UFC Fight Night 38 main event on Saturday at the O2 Arena in London. Lightweight co-headliners Melvin Guillard (156) and Michael Johnson (155) also met their mandated weight requirements without incident at Friday’s official weigh-in.

In the heart of his competitive prime, Gustafsson last competed at UFC 165 in September, when he dropped a contentious unanimous decision to light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto; the defeat halted the 27-year-old Swede’s string of six consecutive victories. An Alliance MMA representative, Gustafsson has compiled a 7-2 mark since arriving in the UFC, having beaten Brazilian brute Thiago Silva, former International Fight League champion Vladimir Matyushenko and 2005 Pride Fighting Championships middleweight grand prix winner Mauricio Rua. He has secured 12 of 15 professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

Manuwa has finished all 14 of his opponents, 10 of them inside one round. The 34-year-old Englishman last appeared at UFC Fight Night 30 in October, when a leg injury suffered by onetime Maximum Fighting Championship titleholder Ryan Jimmo led to a second-round TKO at the Phones 4U Arena in Manchester, England. A former Ultimate Challenge MMA titleholder, Manuwa has never fought outside of England.

UFC Fight Night 38 “Gustafsson vs. Manuwa” -- which streams on UFC Fight Pass at 12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 p.m. PT -- will also feature a flyweight clash pitting American Top Team’s Brad Pickett (125) against Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder Neil Seery (125) and a welterweight tilt pairing undefeated Renzo Gracie protégé Gunnar Nelson (170) with Omari Akhmedov (170). Six preliminary bouts will complete the lineup for the UFC’s first trip to London in more than a year: Cyrille Diabate (205) vs. Ilir Latifi (205), Luke Barnatt (186) vs. Mats Nilsson (184), Brad Scott (186) vs. Claudio Henrique da Silva (185), Roland Delorme (134) vs. Davey Grant (136), Igor Araujo (171) vs. Danny Mitchell (170) and Louis Gaudinot (126) vs. Phil Harris (125).
