UFC Fight Night 33 results: Clint Hester takes TKO win as injury ends Dylan Andrews’ night

BRISBANE, Australia – In a battle of “The Ultimate Fighter 17? teammates, injury forced Kiwi Dylan Andrews to quit on the stool after the second round of his contest with Clint Hester.

The middleweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 33 event at Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Australia. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 2 and MMAjunkie.

Hester landed a big early right hand that certainly caught Andrews’ attention, but neither backed down from the firefight. With Hester winging heavy leather, Andrews moves inside and scored a trip to take the fight to the floor. However, Hester tied things up well underneath and didn’t take much damage before ultimately winding up in top position when Andrews missed on a guillotine attempt.

Late in the frame, Andrews worked to his feet and then scored another takedown, but he ran out of time before he could capitalize on the position.

The pace settled a bit in the second, and just as looked Andrews was finding his striking range, Hester shot in and brought the action to the floor. Andrews tried to scramble to the back, but Hester’s ground-and-pound opened a cut over his opponent’s left eye, and he widened it when they returned to the feet.

Between rounds, Andrews revealed a missed strike separated his shoulder, and Hester was awarded a TKO victory on the advice of the attending doctor.

“Gameplan going in to this fight was to keep it standing, look for openings and take advantage of them,” Hester said after the win. “I felt that was going to plan and disappointed we couldn’t go into the third round.

“Dylan is my brother, you know. I didn’t focus on our friendship while preparing for this fight, but after the fight was done, I was swarmed with emotions. We spent six-and-a-half weeks together at the ‘TUF’ house, and we’ll always be friends. We both just know that this is what you got to do.”

After opening his career at just 4-3, Hester (9-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) now boasts a five-fight winning streak. Andrews (17-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) sees a six-fight winning streak snapped.
