Round 1 – Touch of gloves, and Santos advances. Jotko circles away and resets. No contact yet. Santos still inching in, and Jotko lets him have a kick. Santos replies with the same, and they reset. He gets it, but a whizzer keeps Jotko up. Santos works the knees and lands a punch against the cage. It’s dead quiet in the arena but for Santos’ cornerman. Jotko gets a trip and lands in half-guard. Mostly a battle for position in the clinch. Santos lands a nice punch after trying for a single-led, and there’s some life from the audience. He tries another toss, and Jotko just gets up. Santos stuffing Jotko against the cage. Finally, a separation from Sharp, and the audience cheers. Round 2 – Another touch of gloves, and hopefully, we’ll get some action. Santos’ raspy cornerman is still yelling at his fighter. But mostly, they’re playing handsy early on. Round 3 – Jotko looks more lively in the final frame, the likely result of trading screams with his corner between rounds. He opens up with a combo but doesn’t hurt Santos, who lands a punch of his own. One-two from Jotko, but no follow-up. Santos moving his head as he coleus distance. Jotko sneaks in a hook as Santos closes. Jotko grabs the fence against the cage, but can’t stop from being elevated and tossed to the mat. Santos working in guard. Time for the ol’ body-body-head. Santos passes to half-guard and works to free his leg. He gets side guard and in a flash takes mount, forcing Jotko to give up his back. Jotko escapes and reverses, bringing a cheer from the irritated crowd. Punches from the Polish fighter up top. Less than a minute to go, and this fight will not go down in the history books. Santos works for an arm triangle from the bottom, and it looks tight, though all-arm. Jotko waits it out and throws a few punches to end the lackluster fight. MMAjunkie scores the final frame 10-9 for Santos, who takes the fight 29-28.

Pass to half-guard, and then a mount attempt, but Vaculik still has his wits about him. Again, he’s up, but Scoggins is all over him. Knees from Scoggins, and Vaculik is forced mostly on the defense. He misses a guillotine on the way to the mat, and Scoggins is again working from top position. Scoggins passes to mount, and Vaculik squirms and escapes, drawing a cheer from the partisan crowd. Scoggins gets back mount, though, as Vaculik tries to scramble to freedom, and the referee waves off the fight as Scoggins unloads with punches. Round 1 – The middleweights touch gloves, and Ring has his hands low off the bat. Magalhaes swings for the fences with a punch and kick. Ring dodges and smiles at his opponent. High kick from the Canadian, and it’s repaid by Magalhaes. Ring presses in and catches a counter right. Magalhaes complains of an eyepoke and signals the ref. We stop for a check, and Ring is sent to his corner. Doctor looks at it, and slaps the Brazilian’s cheek. Guess that means we’re good to go. Ring back in with a smile. His hands are still low, and he’s looking to put together combos. Magalhaes swings big again and misses. Ring takes one to the side of the head and locks them up. No takedown attempt. Ring pauses, daring his foe to swing. No dice. Magalhaes shoots from the open and is stuffed. He drives, anyway, to the cage, where they trade knees and punches. Ring lands a few nice knees to the body, then the head. Magalhaes working punches. Ring finding great success in the clinch. Elbows land. Magalhaes blatantly grabs the cage when Ring tries a takedown and has his hand slapped away. Ring completes the attempt and takes top position against the cage. He thinks about a choke, but Magalhaes pushes back to his feet. Magalhaes now clinching. They reset, and a subsequent clash prompts Ring to retreat, and he manages to get the fight to the ground. Ring sets up for a D’Arce but decides against it. They get back to their feet, where Magalhaes wings a high kick as the round ends. Ring takes the first round on MMAjunkie’s scorecard, 10-9.

Round 2 – Ring again smiling at his opponent, who whacks him with a leg kick to start the frame. Magalhaes again with a body kick. He slips on a subsequent attempt, and Ring charges into a hook. Upon reset, he lands a straight left, but catches another punch. Magalhaes again telegraphs a shot and is stuffed. Ring grabs his head and then drives them to the mat, where he works in sideboard for what looks to be a straight armbar, then keylock. Magalhaes defends, but Ring briefly gets a crucifix. Magalhaes isn’t done, though, and bucks before reversing position and settling into Ring’s guard against the fence. Magalhaes works to pass against the cage. Ring elevates Magalhaes off the mat briefly, but can’t escape. Ground and pound from Magalhaes. Ring losing this round with 30 seconds to go. He’s trying to get his legs up, but Magalhaes is ready for that. Magalhaes takes the second frame on MMAjunkie’s scorecard, 10-9, and the fight is tied at 19-19.

Round 3 – It’s anyone’s fight now, and Ring is closing slowly. Neither fighter, though, looks to have much urgency. Magalhaes breaks the stalemate with a front kick. They trade leg attacks and then clash with punches, but nobody’s wobbled. Both look winded from two tough rounds. More leg attacks. Magalhaes is doing a good job of defending himself against Ring’s incursions. While his punches aren’t as pretty, they’re effective. And just like that, a left hook hurts Ring and sends him backwards. Magalhaes charges into a takedown and goes to work. Ring briefly elevates him, but they flop back to the mat. Ref doesn’t see enough and stands them up, quickly. Ring immediately shoots and is stuffed. He adjust and tries for a double-leg, but Magalhaes isn’t going down. Nice knee from the Brazilian. Ring still has a leg, but not much leverage. Magalhaes whacks him with punches to the head and body. Referee again stands them, and Ring dives for a takedown. It’s been a taxing fight, clearly, and the audience isn’t liking the Canadian’s solution. Ring is still driving, but with Magalhaes sprawled out, they’re in a stalemate. Magalhaes tries to get to Ring’s back, and he lands a few punches to the side of the head before time runs out. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Magalhaes and gives him the fight, 29-28. Round 1 – Bantamweights touch gloves to get under way. Phan jabbing in and immediately encountering resistance from Mizugaki. Lead left hook from Mizugaki, and he lands the punch in a subsequent exchange. Nice body shot from Mizugaki. Phan with a left hook of his own, and already this fight is light years different than the last one. Another nice body shot from Mizugaki. He’s turning it on and throwing fast combinations, pushing Phan back before he finishes a takedown against the cage. Phan cage walks and takes a few big punches against the cage. He comes back, though, working the jab. But Mizugaki catches him with a straight right, and he’s forced to reset. Mizugaki far more accurate and effective in exchanges, and far more accurate. Phan is sneaking in a few punches here and there, but he’s being outworked. Mizugaki ends another flurry with a takedown, and when Phan gets up, he’s greeted with a big punch. They trade jabs, and Phan gets caught with a pair of hook counters. Another big body shot from Mizugaki. Phan is still there, though. He’s taking body shots and hooks to the head with regularity, but he’s still coming forward. Mizugaki, though, is clearly in control of the fight. Phan’s corner is telling him to work low, then high. Mizugaki doesn’t give him a chance to implement that suggestion, working combos and coming over the top with a right hand that’s now landing regularly. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Mizugaki.

Round 2 – Mizugaki immediately unloads a few right hands to push off Phan, who’s pushed back to the cage as Mizugaki unloads. A left hook lands flush on Phan’s chin, and all of a sudden, Mizugaki is unloading on him against the fence. Phan takes dozens of shots before he’s able to escape, and the crwod cheers the sequence. Back in open range, they trade punches off the center line, and Phan finds a few body shots. Phan now working a straight right and body shot. Mizugaki tries a surprise elbow. Mizugaki charges in with a right and shoots, but Phan is able to stuff it this time. Thrusting knee from Mizugaki. Phan again goes to the body. He’s booking more shots now. But Mizugaki’s power is evident, and even the booked shots are getting a reaction. They spill to the cage, where Mizugaki works for a takedown and finds himself defending a kimura. He adjusts and completes the takedown. Immedeately, Phan is up, and it looks like the pace Mizugaki has keep is wearing on him. His mouth is wide open, and Phan is pressing forward. Mizugaki takes a body shot, then a nice left hook. Mizugaki counters with a right, but momentum seems to be headed the other way. Mizugaki is unsuccessful in a takedown attempt at the bell, and we roll to the third round. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Mizugaki, who’s up 20-18.

Round 3 – They go right back at it in the final frame, and Phan lands a nice left hook to the head. More clashes of combinations, and Mizugaki chases Phan down. Mizugaki shoots from the open and is again caught in a kimura. He’s forced to reset, and Phan’s corner tells him Mizugaki is going to stall. Big left hook from Phan in the open, and Mizugaki shoots. The crowd is now firmly behind Phan, who turns it up a notch and starts firing punches. He’s finding his range now as Mizugaki tires, and he’s scoring regularly with body shots and left hooks. Mizugaki still is dangerous, but Phan is putting together combinations. Mizugaki wings a couple of hooks and connects, but Phan catches him with a left hook. Another leading knee from Mizugaki, who seems to have found a second wind. There’s more on his punches, but he can’t finish a takedown, and they go back to battering each other in the center of the cage. Phan again finds his left hook and presses in. Mizugaki catches him flush with a left hand and charges to finish the fight. Phan, though, isn’t going anywhere. Fight ends with Mizugaki firing off a big combination, and Phan circles the cage with his arms overhead in victory. MMAjunkie scores the final frame for Phan, 10-9, but it’s not enough to overcome his early deficit. Mizugaki takes the fight, 29-28. Judges award the Japanese fighter a unanimous decision, but with a slightly differing scorecard.
