BOSTON – MMAjunkie.com was on scene and reporting live from today’s official UFC Fight Night 26 fighter weigh-ins, where all 26 competitors successfully made weight for Saturday’s show.
The festivities took place at Boston’s TD Garden, the same venue that hosts Saturday’s show, which has a main card on FOX Sports 1 (8 p.m. ET) following prelims on FOX Sports 1 (6 p.m. ET) and Facebook (4:30 p.m. ET).
In the main event, former light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua meets former two-division title challenger Chael Sonnen. Sonnen weighed in first, coming in at 205 pounds. “Shogun” also was 205 on the button before the two engaged in a civil face-off in front of UFC President Dana White.
In a heavyweight clash in the co-main event, Alistair Overeem looks to rebound from a knockout loss to Antonio Silva. He was 255.5 and will have nearly a 20-pound weight advantage for his fight against Travis Browne, who came in at 236.
Also on the main card, former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber was 135.5 for his bantamweight bout against Yuri Alcantara, who was 136. And in a key welterweight contenders fight, Matt Brown looks to extend his win streak to six, while Mike Pyle goes after five in a row. Brown needed the towel, but came in at 171 pounds. Pyle was 170 on the button.
Two Boston-based fighters got big pops from the crowd. Kicking off the main card, Joe Lauzon was 156 for his lightweight fight against Michael Johnson, who was 155. And Boston’s John Howard returns to the promotion after going 7-1 outside the company. He was 185 for his middleweight bout against “TUF 17? finalist Uriah Hall, who was 184.
