Round 1: Smith comes out kicking and eventually landing a hard right hand, but Chiesa answers with a knee. Smith clinches up and tries to trip Chiesa to the mat, eventually dragging him down from behind. Chiesa quickly sweeps Smith and takes his back, locking on a body triangle and working for a rear-naked choke. Smith defends and Chiesa gives up on the choke, Smith reversing and then taking Chiesa’s back as Chiesa stands. He drops off Chiesa’s back and drags him to the mat, takes his back again and sinks a rear-naked choke of his own. Chiesa stands, defending the choke, and flips Smith onto his back, but Smith maintains back control of Chiesa, both men now sitting up. Chiesa scrambles to his feet again, eventually forcing Smith to release his grip, and the round comes to a close. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Smith.

Round 2: They immediately lock up, Smith pressing Chiesa up against the fence, but they come off the fence and separate. Chiesa drives forward with some punches that don’t land, while Smith moves into a clinch. Chiesa executes a beautiful throw, landing on the mat and immediately taking control of Smith’s back and locks in a fight-ending rear-naked choke.
