Michael Bisping’s swollen and bloodied face post-UFC 204 has the medical suspension to back it up.
Bisping (30-7 MMA, 20-7 UFC) received one of the longest medical suspensions stemming from this past Saturday’s pay-per-view event, which took place at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England, where he notched his first title defense and avenged a loss with a hard-fought decision over Dan Henderson (32-15 MMA, 9-9 UFC).
MMAjunkie today requested and received a list of medical suspensions from the UFC, which self-regulates events held in countries without official athletic commissions.
Bisping, the No. 1 fighter in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings, needs a CT scan of his face and head, or he is suspended for 180 days. He’s also suspended 60 days with 45 days with no contact during training due to a nasty laceration next to his left eye.
Henderson, meanwhile, received a 30-day suspension with 21 days no contact for a laceration – but the term is meaningless because the rematch served as his official retirement fight.
Another notable suspension is No. 14-ranked light heavyweight Ovince Saint Preux (19-9 MMA, 7-4 UFC), whose left leg folded under him after a bad knockout loss to the hands of No. 11 Jimi Manuwa (16-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) on the pay-per-view main card. Saint Preux now needs clearance on his left knee via X-ray, or he is suspended 180 days, and he is additionally suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for precautionary reasons following the KO.
And the limb-twisting submission loss Davey Grant (10-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) suffered to Damian Stasiak (10-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) was as bad as it looked; Grant now faces a six-month term for his left elbow.
