UFC 192 Lands Joseph Benavidez vs. Ali Bagautinov and Rose Namajunas vs. Angela Hill

UFC 192 Lands Joseph Benavidez vs. Ali Bagautinov and Rose Namajunas vs. Angela Hill

The UFC 192 fight card continues to add star power with every passing day. UFC officials on Monday added two more high-profile bouts, revealing Joseph Benavidez vs. Ali Bagautinov and Rose Namajunas vs. Angela Hill to the Houston Chronicle.

UFC 192 already features a light heavyweight title fight between current champion Daniel Cormier and challenger Alexander Gustafsson on Oct. 3 at the Toyota Center in Houston.

Benavidez (19-4) has only ever lost to former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and current flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson. (He lost twice to each.) He is perpetually in the hunt for the title no matter what division or organization he fights in.

Bagautinov (13-3) is returning from a one-year suspension for testing positive for EPO in relation to his title fight loss to Johnson at UFC 174 in June of 2014. That is his only blemish under the UFC banner. Like Benavitez, he has remained entrenched at the top of the division.

As long as Johnson holds the belt, Benavidez and Bagautinov fight an uphill battle. The winner of their bout should rightfully be in title contention, but if Johnson successfully defends his belt against John Dodson at UFC 191 on Sept. 5, it could be difficult for either Benavidez or Bagautinov to get the next shot at the belt. A Dodson victory, however, could alter their chances.

Rose-Namajunas-TUF-20-w-750Namajunas (2-2) and Hill (2-1) are two strawweights with star potential that are still trying to gain a significant foothold in the Octagon.

Both women entered the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter. Namajunas made it to the finals, but lost to Carla Esparza, who became the first UFC starwweight champion. Hill didn’t fare as well on the show, but won her bout against Emily Kagan on the Finale before losing to Tecia Torres in her follow-up bout.
