LAS VEGAS – Paige VanZant continued to stick it to the doubters with a third-round armbar submission of Alex Chambers at UFC 191.

VanZant (6-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) showcased relentless pressure and fantastic cardio in beating up and eventually wearing out Chambers (5-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) to secure the victory.

The women’s strawweight bout opened up the main card of today’s UFC 191 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

VanZant charged across the cage and began throwing wildly at Chambers to open Round 1, but Chambers was able to circle out away from the cage and get back to the center of the octagon. The action quickly moved back to the cage with VanZant getting the better of the striking in the clinch. With the size advantage, VanZant appeared to be trying to wear out Chambers early.

After Chambers attempted her own takedown it was VanZant who executed a slick trip takedown and landed ground and pound strikes for a few moments before stepping back and letting Chambers back to her feet. VanZant didn’t let up the pressure for the rest of the round.

Round 2 started much the same way as Round 1 ended, with VanZant pushing forward and putting Chambers’ back on the cage. VanZant’s output slowed over the round, but Chambers continued to appear to wilt to the pressure and size of her foe.

As VanZant landed down the stretch of the round it appeared that Chambers might be close to ready to go, but she survived the frame as VanZant landed a flurry of punches while she turtled up.

VanZant had little worry coming into Round 3, she pressed forward again, put Chambers on her back and used striking to open up an eventual armbar to take the submission at the 1:01 mark of Round 3.

VanZant came into the fight on a three-fight winning streak. Most recently, she defeated Felice Herrig at UFC on FOX 15.

Chambers was coming off an armbar submission of Kailin Curran at UFC Fight Night 65. That victory was a rebound win after an armbar loss to Aisling Daly at the TUF 20 Finale.
