Five fighters were suspended indefinitely following this past Saturday’s UFC 185, including flyweight Ryan Benoit, who courted controversy when he kicked Sergio Pettis after a knockout victory.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which recently released medical suspensions arising from the event, confirmed that the suspension was not related to Benoit’s foul, for which he apologized after the fight.
“The Pettis camp did not wish to file a complaint with the Department against Mr. Benoit,” TDLR Public Information Officer Susan Stanford wrote MMAjunkie in an email. “Greg Alvarez, TDLR’s Combative Sports Manager, spoke sternly with Mr. Benoit, stressing this type of behavior is not acceptable, nor that of a professional fighter. No further action will be taken against Benoit.”
Also receiving indefinite terms were Josh Copeland, who suffered a TKO loss to Jared Rosholt; Larrisa Pacheco, who was TKOd by Germaine de Randamie; Jake Lindsey, who was TKOd by Joseph Duffy; and Roger Narvaez, who had his arm broken by Elias Theodorou.
All fighters from the card received minimum suspensions. Headliners Rafael dos Anjos and Anthony Pettis avoided significant terms despite a tough five-round fight that saw dos Anjos take the UFC lightweight title.
Additionally, Stanford told MMAjunkie that the TDLR tested all fighters from the UFC 185 card pre-fight for performance-enhancers and drugs of abuse. Results from those tests will be available next week.
