LAS VEGAS – In a fight contested largely on the mat, Jason High held superior position and outgrappled UFC newcomer Anthony Lapsley.

Although Lapsley proved a tough customer to finish, High was able to win two of three rounds on judges’ scorecards.

The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 167 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It streamed on MMAjunkie ahead of additional prelims on FOX Sports 1 and a main card on pay-per-view.

Taking mount again early in the second, High again looked poised to end the fight with a submission. But Lapsley managed to get out of danger and keep High at bay from top position, though he did little to score points.

“I got the win, but I’m not happy with it,” High said. “I really feel like I should’ve ran right through him, but it didn’t turn out that way. I think the first round could’ve been scored a 10-8 in my favor. I was in dominant position the entire round and didn’t take any damage. I’m just thankful I was able to go in there and compete. I’ll be back even better next time out.”

High (18-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) now owns back-to-back UFC wins after stumbling in his return to the UFC, while the veteran Lapsley (22-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) sees the end of a four-fight streak earned on the regional circuit.
