The year so far: The best UFC photos from May with fighters just bleeding all over the place

Every now and again, we go through a lull in the UFC’s typically jam-packed schedule. Welcome to that lull.

Think about this for a minute: Starting July 7 with UFC Fight Night 90, and ending with UFC 204 on Oct. 8, a stretch of 93 days, the UFC put on 15 shows. That’s one event every six days or so.

After the cancellation of UFC Fight Night 97, we won’t see another show until UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico City on Nov. 5 – a full month in between events, which will be the promotion’s longest stretch without an event in four years.

So in the downtime, we figured it would be a good time to take a look back at some of the best photos we’ve seen this year from the USA TODAY Sports shooters over 31 UFC events in eight countries. We’ll take it a month at a time, day by day.
