Colin FletcherThe Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes finalist Colin Fletcher has been released by the UFC.

Fletcher announced the news Monday via Twitter.

“Is it just me or does cut after 1 official UFC fight seam a little harsh I know I didn’t perform my best ! Neva mind,” he tweeted.

Fletcher (8-3) was on a four-fight winning streak heading into “The Smashes,” representing Team U.K.  against Team Australia.  He advanced to the finals with wins over Ben Hall and Richie Vaculik.

He was defeated in the finals by Norman Parke at UFC on FX 6 by unanimous decision.  Despite losing, Fletcher was offered a UFC contract.

Fletcher faced TUF 16 runner-up Mike Ricci at UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz on March 16.  He was defeated by unanimous decision in his one and only post-TUF bout.

Fletcher later tweeted his release was not that big of a surprise.

“Wasn’t unexpected,” he wrote. “Just thought I wasn’t the most boring of the guys who lose n don’t get cut.”

UFC 175 and The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale had a lot to offer. There were two title fights, both spectacular in their own right. Other fighters like Justin Scoggins and Dustin Ortiz also made a name for themselves. Crowds both nights seemed to be genuinely enthusiasic. There were problems, too. Judging was sketchy a number of times, a legend was forcibly mauled into retirement, and a fighter had a health scare backstage. It's time to separate the winners from the losers, the best from the worst read news >>

For grappling wunderkind Robert Drysdale, it appears that the man cannot keep his testosterone in check. Drysdale was expected to face Cody Donovan on Nov. 16, 2013 at UFC 167. See who the Bloody Elbow staff is picking for Sunday's TUF 19 Finale at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. B.J. Penn vs. Frankie Edgar Mookie Alexander: For all intents and purposes, it's 1-1 heading into the 3rd fight, because scoring the 1st fight for Edgar MUCH LESS 50-45 is criminal. Alas, the record stands as 2-0 and the 2nd fight made it abundantly clear how much better Edgar has become compared to Penn. Unless Edgar has hit a sharp decline or Penn really is rejuvenated on the 19 read news >>
