LAS VEGAS – Once Dylan Andrews was able to fend off Jimmy Quinlan’s desire to get the fight back to the canvas, it was all smooth sailing.

And that smooth sailing only took a few seconds. Andrews landed a right hand that put his fellow “TUF 17? cast member on the canvas, and he followed it up with a barrage of punches for a first-round TKO win.

The middleweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale event at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. It aired on FUEL TV following additional prelims on Facebook and ahead of a main card on FX.

Quinlan went for a single-leg takedown quickly and got Andrews to the ground for a brief moment. Andrews popped back up in a flash, but Quinlan held on to that single along the fence. Andrews’ takedown defense was good for a minute, but Quinlan finally dragged him down and into side control.

With three minutes left in the round, Quinlan looked to be in good position on the canvas. But Andrews did well to get back to his feet – where Quinlan quickly tied him up again. With two minutes left, the two were separated by referee Chris Tognoni and went back to the middle, where Andrews quickly landed a right uppercut that stunned Quinlan and put him on the floor.

Andrews took advantage quickly. He pounced and landed 15 right hands on the ground before Tognoni finally stepped in at the 3:22 mark of the round.

“It’s so hard to try to explain the feelings I have right now,” Andrews said. “I sacrificed so much to get on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and have the opportunity to compete tonight. I’ve only dreamed of this day, so I really can’t find the words. Being picked last on the show gave me the motivation to prove myself worthy to be here, and I think this win is a testament to that.”

Andrews (16-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) won for the fifth straight time. Quinlan (3-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who trains with UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon, lost for the first time in his career.
